Becoming a tutor allows you to make a significant impact in the life of another person, and assists us in improving the literacy of the members of our community.
Contact our office to register for the next tutor training class. This training occurs in our office at 1108 Bridges Street in Morehead City (Cape Lookout High School).
You will receive training on how to be a successful tutor, using the Laubach Way to Reading, which has proven to be an effective teaching method.
Tutors should be prepared to work with a student for a year or more. Course material is generally based on two hour classes with your student, twice per week. The Council will assist in locating a public place to meet for classes - such as a library, school, church, or other community organization.
Each new student is evaluated before placement with a tutor to determine the student's reading and math levels. Appropriate text books and other lesson materials are recommended and provided at no cost.
